In today’s time, Working from Home has been a big difference, especially if you have children. As a mother, this kind of opportunity is a blessing. You can work and earn while in the comforts of your home and at the same time you can spend time and witness your children grow.
Working from Home as a Mother, is not easy. Sometimes your day will be slow; sometimes you will not know what to do. You have deadlines you need to meet, in top of that while dealing with your child's tantrum at the same time.
I am not an expert in working from home while taking care of my child at the same time but let me share with you my tips while juggling both for more than a year now:
Be Flexible – I know it is easier said, than done. Some days are hard when some of things planned do not go as it is. When nothing seems to go and I think whatever I do will not be right and it will make me behind than make my work move forward, I give myself off and play with my child instead, it makes me relax and it gives me fresh perspective to do my work much better.
Be strict with your work time – the beauty of working from home is you can have all your own time, you can choose when to work and for how long, for me i make sure that when I work Monday to Friday 8am -5pm my weekends is for my family, and I make sure to do no work related stuffs when my time ends every day.
Plan your day ahead – I always make sure that when I work, I have my toddler things to do so that I can have uninterrupted time, stocking up coloring books, movies to watch, toys to played with by my side while I’m working.
Make the best of naptime – I know I’m lucky that my child takes 2 naps a day, one in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. So, I take this quiet time to catch up and speed up my work, so it can be playtime for both of us when he wakes up.
Have a little time for yourself – splitting my time between working from home and taking care of my child took almost all of my time but I always make room even for an hour to have time for myself.
All the challenges of working from home as a mother is very worth it to me and I know I am very lucky when I can pursue a career while taking care of my child at the same time. It is hard to balance both but I have managed.Being honest with your employer about your situation also eases the pressure you will be dealing. How about you?
